Mounting a Rear Winch

<< < (2/6) > >>

Discotel:
Am I right in thinking you are saying to use the front winch and some how run the cable back to the back of the disco..?..Or mount a removable plate at the back and mount a small winch on that...?

Is there such a thing as a rear winch bumper anywhere...?

Terry

clbarclay:
I'm pretty sure what they are taking about is something like this....

The disco is unmodefied except for wiring the battery to a plug at the rear of the vehicle, A bit like this pic. Ideally mounted further up out of muds way and depending on the power of the winch, a larger model of plug than pictured example.

A winch is fixed to a mount which can be attched to the tow ball like this example

For the times I've actually needed a rear winch (pay and play, not competing), a Hi-lift has served me well.
I wouldn't want to permenantly mount a winch on the back of a discovery or RRC without doing like turbonutter and chopping out the rear crossmember to recese it. The departure angle is annoying enough as it is.

wizard:
Thats it. simple to make and install.

Discotel:
Thnks guys, I did not know this sort of thing could be done...Are these mounts available to buy, or is it just better to make my own...Do you really think a 2ton winch will be ok for a disco on this..?...

Terry

P.S...Where can I get a plug like the one in the picture from...?

wizard:
You will find a suitable plus & socket here
