Think its anything before 1993 doesn't need a CAT not 1985 on petrol cars anyway.  Don't know about diesels!

just to add what porny has put , ive just m.o.t'd my 300 . no egr ,cat removed ,no ctr box. the tail pipe is now where the ctr box should be and then exits out the side. i did cut the pump down a bit but the smoke test was 0.47. not bad with 200,000 on the clock too so i wouldnt worry about cats egr's or anything else .. alan
