My suggestion would be to have the bonnet pod wired to come on with main beam (via a switch, so you can have original lighting or additional) and the roof lights on a different switch for use while wading or if you need loads of light off road. This is based on the fact that my roof lights do a great job of illuminating the bonnet...

Yeah... further to my Fibreglass roof pod thingy... build into the shape shades to keep the light from lighting the dash/bonnet. Attention to detial... you gotta love it!
