Good choice.  Extra weight will help stability, it'll feel better to handle and it will last longer if you drop it (like I did my 10D a week after getting it).  You'll probably have it many years so the expense will be spread out...

suppose if your set on Canon then the 40d is the better of the 2.....but then Im not a canon man.

I dont have a DSLR I did try a canon once but sent it back, ok it was a cheap jobbie about £300 and I dont pretend to be in the same room as Andy, but for the pictures I have seen and if I had the money to spend it would go on a nikon.
