air con

the disco 300tdi ES has air con that is making a little squeeking noise. probably the bearings. anyway, can the drive belt be removed to isolate the air-con as i don't use/need it. from what i can see nothing else is run from the belt. Ian
Disco Matt:
Yep - I've got exactly the same problem and just took the belt off. I need a replacement for the pulley/bearing assembly on the compressor, that's where my noise comes from.
iann41:
Thx for that. I'll remove the belt till i get a new assembly.

If you find somewhere online that can supply them can you let me know? I got a quote of £147 from the local main dealer to supply and fit a new part, a hefty chunk of which will be labour. I can easily swap the parts over so just need to find somewhere that can supply them.
You can replace the bearing in the pulley, but I tried this and got nowhere as while attempting to press the new bearing in I managed to dislodge the seal and contaminate the ballraces. Ok for those with a fully equipped workshop and engineering skills but not for me!
