i always used ep90 mate an i know on the r380 boxes u ment to use dexron 2

235/85 special tracks, 3.9 V8, HD bumpers, +3 inch lift, +5 shocks f&r, 12000lbs champion winch, heavy duty steering bars, CB and a snorkel....

i wouldn't use ep90 in a 200tdi gearbox

it should be automatic transmission fluid in there mate

i didnt know that ive always used ep90 in the early 200 tdi boxes an used atf in the r380s

235/85 special tracks, 3.9 V8, HD bumpers, +3 inch lift, +5 shocks f&r, 12000lbs champion winch, heavy duty steering bars, CB and a snorkel....

LT77 ATF (dextron II) (Army uses engine oil OMD90)
R380 MTF 94 or latest ATF Dextron III/IV (II could be used if others not available)

Transfer box is EP 80/90 - certainly wouldn't use it in main gearbox. Wouldn't do any harm I suppose but gear changes must be stiff!

never found a prob as they normally higher mileage cars an they dont crunch as much :P i noticed tho with my r380 box usin dexron3 it gots really hot alot quicker then my 200 usin ep90 in gearbox

LT77 should use ATF not EP90.  Unlike a "normal" box it has an oil pump to circulate the oil so is designed to use ATF which is a hydraulic grade oil.  The Borg Warner T-Box also uses ATF as it too has it'sown pump.

On V8 LT77s you will also find an oil cooler in front of the rad for the gearbox, the housing on the passenger's side is just a return feed on the TDi box but has 2 pipe connections on a V8.  You can retrofit the oil cooler to a TDi BTW.

I was told that EP90 would seize an LT77 up, but thatdoesn't seem to be the case based on the above :-k

One thing I'd like to know, are the gear changes any better or any worse using EP90?

id really cold weather it can be a bit stiff to get gear but as i do alot of motorway mileage the oil soon gets warmed up an it changes lovely an with less grindin or crunchin as i suppose the ep90 being a thicker oil coats the cogs better an with off roadin the 200 it gets a lot more abuse an since puttin ep90 in it i go through less boxes lol

Hmm, interesting.  SOunds like the oils are behaving as expected then, EP90 will get a lot thinner at higher temp, you can buy an EP80/90 from Halfrauds if it's a big problem and IIRC Citroen had an EP75/90 that's a semi synthetic (will last longer) if you can track it dowm, that would give you the protection when hot but behave better when cold.

EP stands for Extreme Pressure BTW, it's designed to stick to the gears when the gears are strying to force it out.

Oddly though a synchro hub should work better with almost no oil, so it's odd that yours changes better with a thick oil :-k  perhaps it's the viscosity :?

Anyway, if it's not bust don't fix it I say.  Thanks for the comments.
