td5 fuel filter bleeding

Can any body help!changed my fuel filter & purged the system by switching ignition on ,pumping acc pedal 5times& waited for light to stop flashing,then started engine with acc pedal to floor.I have done this process twice,draining battery on both times,recharged battery but engine still slow to start when cold(lt only starts after long cranking)it used to fire at aflick of the switch even cold once the glow light had gone off.I have only changed fuel filter,any advice apprieciated.
ps.the engine cranks fast,just feels like struggling for deisel,then after initial start.is fine for the day,untill left for 2days then problem starting again.
what is the correct size battery?thanks steve.

Could be your filter is sucking in air. Try purging the system again before starting it again in the morning - you will hear air squishing through the system if there's a leak. Did you make sure the old seals were taken off along with the old filter? Having two on it will make for a weak seal.

les,already purged it twice,its normal to have to do it three or more times?worried if continue to keep purging when cold running battery flat.will it have the same affect to do once engine is warm?

When you say fuel filter - you mean the big can thing just in front of the rear o/s wheel ?

When mine was replaced a few weeks back, it leaked to start with as the new filter was fractionally bigger (I used a non-LR part, and the diameter of the can was everso slightly more than the OEM part), and I had to slacken the 3 (?) bracket mounting bolts, then tighten the filter up, then tighten the bracket mount bolts up.

I would be tempted to change the fuel filter again, but use Land Rover one, and get a new battery fitted ASAP.

It will soon let you down when you need it most.
