I would not use poison for two reasons. One, it's inhumane. They may be vermin but they don't deserve a slow painful death. Two, after taking the bait they will invariably crawl away under the floorboards to die, producing the most appalling smell!

We had this at work and ended up with 30ish dead mice / rats in the ceiling festering away. A complete new ceiling was needed as there was no human access to the other side of it. Glad I wasnt the one taking the old ceiling down from underneath!! Raining rats and mice. ewww :->
