Fitting Guardian tree sliders - any tips?
Disco Matt:
On Wednesday I intend to have a go at fitting my new tree sliders, but I was wondering if anyone has any useful hints/tips/advice? They're the Guardian ones. I have held them against the car and it appears that the rear of the two bolts that go through the sills (the one nearest the B pillar) uses one of the holes that the original plastic trim was attached to in order to locate the slider before drilling the other holes - is this right?
Planning to use a couple of scissor jacks to support the sliders while I work, as those will enable me to adjust them by fractions of a millimetre to get them straight and level.

Ive fitted them onto my disco, and my advice is drill and bolt the sill first, so that when you come to marking up and drilling the outriggers its is a lot easier,
Also keep checking that you can still open and close all the the doors,as my doors were quite perferctly straight.
Disco Matt:
Thanks - that was my plan. Did one of the holes line up with the existing trim securing stud hole? It looks as though it should.
I have found that if you pick the sliders up by the flange that bolts to the sill the slider side tends to hang down, so a couple of scissor jacks under that will mean that I can get the outrigger holes spot on.
Also, do they bolt to the outriggers in front or behind? The outriggers have rolled edges which would make it difficult to connect the sliders solidly if placed aft of them, but I'm just checking that I've not missed anything.

I did this on mine (Discoparts), just watch they don't slide off because they're heavy! Ask me how I know.

On a Landy? Not even the engine is built to those tolerances.

Haha! Well, even if the rest isn't then I can still make sure I get these straight. :D
I don't intend going underneath until I have the bolts through the sill sorted out. That should be a pretty effective way of ensuring they don't fall off the jacks.
