yes, that will work.

i personally dont like the look of disco tray backs. it works with defenders and to a certan extent RRCs but discos are curvy and the curvyness needs to be kept in there to make it look right. i was thinking along the lines of what your discribing a trayback wut with body pannels. getting the curve for the wheelarch right with out a radius roller will be HARD and near impossible.

Yeah i had thought of that and was thining of tyring to get a bit of bend on the pipe and then pull the body panel in a bit to match up, kind of meet in the middle ground.

Boss, I aint used it for a long period of time yet, but it seems to be godo enough for what I need it for. I have access to a 1,000amp, 3 phase welder if I need it, so I don't neet a mahoosive one.

no updates :( i was ooooooot and aboooot this weekend at bircham.......total waist of my time really! absolutly gutted my disco wasnt there. course was so easy that i got the shogun around on "aggressive" road tyres then at then end of it i realised it wasnt even in low ratio! had to physically kick the leaver over, super select my a*** rear locker did help alot i guess but i still dont like them.

on the plus side.....i get my cast off today! and i get to go see the new terminator film and i get to go back to work :D :dance:

should have an update this weekend, if they still dont let me go back to work(got to do alot of physio apparently :roll:) then youll have one sooner :lol:

Congrats on getting the cast off. I shut three of my fingers in the workshop door yesterday, and they have now swelled up to the extent that I struggle to get a welding gauntlet on. I might need to go down the hosipital, which means my deadline for getting Pheonix on the road is going to be hard to meet!

ah man that sucks! what you go shutting your fingers in places they shouldnt be!

cast is off......my arm is really hairy and skinny and the tan line is so bad it looks like ive tried to fist a cow elbow first and then changed my mind halfway through! :lol:

probibly going to go violate the disco on friday....maby able to pick up my rear axle after however many weeks!

also going to have to lift it up a bit more......maby a foot! need thoughts on this please, is it better to make my own axle stands BIG or to put bits of wood underneath the existing stands? or could even make a stand/frame thing that the centre of the chassis sits on. any sergestions? just sick of crawling around on the floor and welding in positions that involve me having a spark shower.

I've seen a discovery sat on railway sleepers four high just at the ends of the chassy. but you have cut the rear off your so I don't know how that would work .
old ones are about a £10 each and you can flog them afterwards..

errrrrrrm.........it wont be possible to prop up the rear of thae chassis for much longer 8-[......maby :lol: depends if i can be botherd to continue with this idea i have :lol:

i was thinking about getting a length o wood from b&q and making a jenga type tower to go under the existing stands, but going higher and not wider is something i dont like the idea of. no idea on where to get railway sleepers from lee, otherwise that wouldnt be a bad idea!

Builders yards and garden centres have them for raised beds in gardens..

or paving slabs under your stands work well

recclamation yards and places like that are good for sleepers.

They tend to be about £15 each. There is a place by me that sells them, but not much good to you I suspect!

I know it might not be a huge help but on the isle of man we get them from the railway yards, they are 2nd hand and come in at £8 a pot. If you get them from builders mechants they tend to cost a bit more. Might be worth a look at your local rail yard, or at least give them a ring.

you need to watch out if you get them from a builders merchant as many of them only sell brand new ones wich are about £20 quid each, but they are a lot easier to work with- lighter, easier to cut and they dont leak tar/creasote

Not broken, just nicely swollen, and Pheonix has had to wait as the Volvo failed its MOT so need to put new track rod ends and a wheel bearing on it. However, regarding axle stands, go to an agricultural type place anc buy some tractor stands. About £40 for a pair, but 8 tonne rated and extend to about 3 foot tall.

leaving to get my second axle now....then i got to weld up the exhaust on my astra as the back box decided to detach its self.....sounds pretty good though :lol:

update, a little later than planned due to unorganizeation and a lack of communication between 4 parties. axle arrived in a truck at my workshop yesterday took 3 of us to lift it out and put it in there. jj and his mate left and i was left to turn the damn thing over ITS HEAVY! more weight shedding is needed! alot more!
diff clearance is aprox 1 coke can high with no tyres :D

little dirty, at the weekend it will recive a good going over with a flap disk.
hubs are smooth as ever, diff is fine difflock not seized, i assure you its only the exterior that is shabby ;)

standard removal procedure

i really need to tidy up! :lol:
but nowi have things to put on, the mess can be banished :D

are the axles standard mog width ? are u gona get into cutting them down ect or just have a realy wide truck ?
