further (web) investigation and the pictures of the 2 possible callipers are EXACTLY the same, only difference between the pads i can see is the new ones have holes in the top for the rods and the old one have a central tab. Appear to be interchangeable then!

ive been searching on tinterweb too and thats the conclusion i came to calipers same so as long as you
get 300tdi pads and fixing kit you should be ok....

but loking at eds 200tdi and my 300tdi at the weekend and I have the tab type with split pin. Strange why I have the older type and not newer type.

It's looking like fitter incompetence more than anything, changeover is meant to be mid K-reg (KA034313), if the parts are interchangeable what ever comes to hand is probably getting slapped in.

Range Rover Blues:
Given the choice it'd be nice to think the later style of mounting is an improved version.  It may have been changed to make it cheaper though :doh:
