oil change - amount of oil

doing my 1st oil change - how much do i 'put in ' and how long is best to leave the old oil to drain out ?

Im assuming that your doing the change on the disco in your avitar,and im also assuming its a 300 tdi,if its a oil and filter change then you will need 6.65 litres according to my rave cd.I always run the engine up to operating temp before draining and put the front slightly upwards to get as much out as possible.When undoing the filter keep both hands on it as if you drop it it rests on the top of the diff emptying its self out,oh and just be carefull you dont burn yourself because that oil gets hot,I usually leave it for about an hour to drain,hope all goes well mate.

nice one - thanks ! good advice :) ive bought a 5L bottle and 2L bottle ,so take it i put the full 5L in then check the dipstick and add whats needed :)

And due to the fantastic design of the Discovery the oil flow hits the cross member thingy when you take the drain plug out...!!!

Just make sure you've got something on the floor to catch the mess...lol

use a carry bag full of newspaper to catch the oil filter or you will drop it, straight on to the axle which then drips for weeks :-.
also tighten the oil filter well or that drips too  ;)
