Hi there i have had a couple of sj's which usually suffer with these running probs. Carbs can be a pain in the backside as they are so over completed, your best bet is to check for air leaks around all of the vacuum pipes, and make sure none of the linkages are seized. You can buy new vacuum hose from a motor factor very cheap so i would replace them all, one at a time!!! Also consider fitting a much simpler (and better) carb such as a nikki, they are great and give you more power!!!

The nikki carb i bought for mine had the window bit facing the front of the truck. Also neither the throttle or choke cables would fit, it took some bracket making and general dicking about to make good, but was well worth the effort.
