There is really quite a few variations in what one will do.  If the ignition isn't quite spot on and the carb is a little worn then it'll be doing low teens. If it is getting on a bit then you'll be in single figures. But then in reasonable health then you could see mid teens around and about and pushing low twenties on a run.
The driving style is different but not driven hard then reasonable economy could be had.

Jemima around the devon hills would do 12 - 15 MPG. and on an M5 run i would get 21 to the gallon.

You can't always tell if it's running rich or out of tune.  I go by ear when setting the mixture, weakening the mixture to the point where the engine's idle changes and becomes slightly rougher.  I then richen the mixture by 1/4 to 1/2 a turn.  Seems to work for me.

Ignition timing varies from engine to engine on what's best, I find around 6 degrees BTDC, others find TDC works best.

By the way, mine had done that mileage when I got it.  But because it had been sat for ages, when it came to being used often every seal that could leak began leaking.  :(

I'm currently getting about 23mpg with my s2a at the moment. The engine is tired and doesn't pull well, but is the most economical series I've ever had!

Depends on how you drive it,  On run I get about 18mpg, but then i dont drive too gently, about town about 15.

Best I have ever got was 21MPG and the worst was 4 GALLONS per mile (it was fun).

If you are worried about cost of running one ask yourself is it for commuting or a toy?
