Wierd electrics!

Its a RRC, V8 Auto, just done 1,000 miles in a week, then, after a stop for coffee, it runs really rough, ticks over OK, but no power and misfires.
When you switch off the ignition light comes and the battery drains overnight.
Any ideas welcome, as I'm baffled by it!

Range Rover Blues:
Think your alternator packed up, when you restarted the battery was nearly flat.
