Oil Light
J.D.:
My 200Tdi recently unwound a tappet and started backfiring through the snorkel, I fixed that and all is running fine, except...
The oil light comes on at low revs, and sometimes stays on for long periods of time, there is no knocking coming from the engine as if the oil pressure was low though. The oil sensor has been replaced and the vehicle has had a full oil change approx 800 miles ago. Any ideas on the problem.
Previous to snapping a tappet screw, it did occasionally put the oil light on at higher engine temperature on idle, which I put down to thin oil as it was so hot, at higher revs it went out ocmpletely though in the past.
Any ideas would be welcomed.
DoubleTop:
good news that the engine is back and running mate
That sounds suspiciously like a worn oil pump, not providing the oil system enough pressure at low revs. I don't know enough about the tolerance on the oil light being a 'warning' light and if that being illuminated means that you would hear any knocking. The fact that at higher rpm it goes off, it's got to be very close, so it could be first signs of a failing oil pump.
With the insider knowledge of a lot of fuel being used, I also wonder about the fuel pump pressure if your fuel lines do have a leak ...

Its always had reguar oi changes though, and sometimes the light goes out, sometimes it doesnt, so im wondering if it is the pressure sensor. Found the fuel problem - bleed screw on the filter was loose!

I dunked my engine and got sandy water in the oil. My oil light came on when it was hot but i did run it for another 4 months like this and it was only slightly noisier but would over heat if used on long journeys. I tried a new pump and replaced the cranck shells but my crank was fubar.
You can get a nice thick oil from fiat called HPX which is 30/50 which may help if the pump doesnt sort it but i would try a pump first.

Funny you should say that, my temp gauge goes over the hafway, nearly to the 3/4 mark on the motorway.
