Les Henson:
I would suggest swivel preload as well. Bushes tend to cause a knock, panhard bushes makes the steering vague (wanders)
Radius arm bushes affect the steering ( braking may also pull the vehicle to one side, or the vehicle may appear to crab)
Shock absorber bushes knock when going over an uneven surface. A-frame ball joint clunks when changing gear. TRE's worn causes vague/loose steering control. Swivel pin bearings/railko bush will knock when changing direction if they are badly worn, and the wheel may appear to be leaning.

Hi Eugene

I would  be very interested to know hoe you get on, I have the same problem, a very violent steering shake when going over 50 or hitting a bump.

I have changed all bushes, damper, springs, shocks, bearings, and the only thing left are the swivel bearings and shims, although I cannot feel any real movement when jacked up.

please let me know how you get on, as I am getting near to the point of depair.

Steve

Les Henson:
There wouldn't necessarily be any play in the swivel bearings - the preload might be almost zero and it would do this. You can jack the wheel clear of the ground, remove it, then disconnect the steering link/s. If the hub just flops over as you turn it by hand, then the swivel preload needs doing.
