Defender body lift ?
« on: September 15, 2008, 07:06:05 »
Hi
whats involved with a Defender body lift. Is is very similar to a Disco lift.
I hade a customer looking for a Def body lift and without actually doing one i couldnt offer him much help.

My usual plan of action is stop someone in sainsburys with a defender and have a good look and see whats involved, but people seem to run away when i ask if i can look under there trucks .

I think it would be one hell of a ball ache, the rear tub sits on the chassis for the support, the bulkhead is bolted hoirontally to an outrigger, the wings also bolter hizontaly etc.

I was looking at it when I stripped my 110 down. It could be possible but it would be a hell of a lot of work.

In one of the LR mags i saw an artical about someone that bought a new chassis with the outriggers and body mounts already lifted.
I thought a Def might be as easy as a Disco to lift.

I think you would probably need to lift the body off the chassis to do it properly... it won't be as easy as a Disco because the defender doesn't have a one piece bodyshell...
