Freelander mpg
steveiboy:
Hiya :D ive just brought a fl 1.8gs what sort of mpg can i expect to get can any one help :D :D :D
V8MoneyPit:
We used to get around 30 mpg when driven sensibly. The TD4 we now own does around the same.
Llanigraham:
My Td4 gives me an average of just over 40mpg.

Really? Hmmm, maybe we need to get ours looked at! I had thought it was running a bit lumpy sometimes and recently checked the mpg and it is consistantly 30-32mpg. But we do a lot of single track road driving to and from work.
Llanigraham:
My wife says I'm a boring old fart because I note down every bit of diesel I buy and the mileage done on each tank, so I can check my figures fairly easily. I do it so that I can keep an eye on how the car is "behaving" and know that if the MPG drops then there might be something wrong.
Figures have been noted on the Td4 since I bought it, and as my journeys are fairly consistent I know they are right. I have noted that they get worse the nearer I am to needing a service, so am guessing that the air filter makes a difference. I am now thinking of changing to a K & N as that is more free flowing.
A lot will depend on the type of driving you are doing. My normal journey is 48 miles each way on a typical Welsh cross country A road, so not brilliant but I rarely get out of 5th. Town driving is only about 3 miles. I rarely go above 55 and drive "defensively" so don't brake but let the car slow itself down for bends and junctions. It does help knowing the road!
