Are you going to wire each spotlight up yourself or have you got a kit?

i got myself a kit, its quite expensive but they are very good and so easey to install just plug an play.

I wired mine for myself with all black wires to keep the installation nice and neat- makes for an interesting job but I'm quite handy with electrics... :lol: :lol: :lol:

Mine are wired to come on with main beam but I used the standard front fog light switch to isolate the circuit when I don;t need it as roof lights have a nasty habit of reflecting off the bonnet and windscreen...lol

I am going to give the wiring a go my self should be a laugh. I now the next thing will be vinyl sticker or chequer plate for the bonnet but that’s for another time.

I'm sure you'll be fine mate, there not the hardest thing in the world to wore up - just take your time and you'll be fine. If you get stuck there are loads of people on here that will offer some help.

I've almost finished mine, been stealing the odd hour here and there to make up a wiring harness for the bar (4 spots), now thats done I've just got to wire my relay in and run the feed and earth up the snorkel, should be done by the weekend time permitting.

If you want any advice or pictures let me know, I'll put em all together in a thread when I get chance but you may need it sooner.

Used so far

1.5 reels of 27a red cable
1 reel of 17a black cable
1 meter of 8a red cable
1 meter of black 8a cable
4 brass bullet conectors
1 twin bullet connector terminal
1 30a fused relay
1 inline fuse
2 35a/10mm ring terminals

Got it all from motorworld or halfrauds. The price difference is staggering between the two shops...

This is just to wire them on with main beam. To wire a switch in also needs a few more bits.

I think I need a couple of 30a female spade terminals to wire the supply to and from the relay, I'm not happy using standard blue 15a ones on a circuit where everything else is rated at 30a plus.

dont know weather its been mentioned about the glare off the bonnet but i made a couple of brows to fit to the underside of the lights. it does help . think the next step mabee the ctr part of the bonnet being blacked...alan

Ok wired up all the lights to the bar checked that they work now just need to get the bar on the roof wire in the relay and switch. Jeff

I made a light bar yesterday, waited until it went dark,  then found out i have four new interior lights  . How far back do they need to be, also are some lights worse than others ( for glare ).

I'm going to spray the middle of my bonnet matt black as it needs a paint anyway, will leave the sides green though so it looks 'normal' from the side!

I'm just finishing wiring my bar up but the way I've done it means I cant get all the wires 'internal' to the bar so they are zip tied to the back in a bit of black ribbed trunking, should look ok but used thicker wires to handle some wattage upgrades in the future.

Job very nearly done the bar is up the wiring is done even sorted the rear work light as the wiring gods where smiling on me :D . Wired them up to there own fuse box and switch on the dash under the clock. Just waiting for it to get dark then check the beams. Next job looks like matt blacking the raised part of the bonnet as there not many of you out there with roof lights that don't get the glare of the bonnet thinking of going done the paint route unless i can raise some funds for chequer plate.  Jeff

Hi Stu got them from a Motor World car part shop near me you can get them in green and red £3.49 each. They fit nicely in the holes where the blank switches sit. Not tested the beam on the lights yet the Stella in the fridge as to tampting :). Jeff

You can buy the proper LR front foglight switches cheaply enough on ebay. They do need a special connector but mine already had one as part of pre-installed front foglight wiring, so I just rewired it to switch the relay for the spots.

I thought about going down the landrover front fog light switch but the hole playing with the wires at the back of the switch just put me of to many dramas for this call sign.

They're really simple to trace - mine had a white wire that didn't go anywhere (just looped through a bulkhead grommet), an earth, and two feeds from the sidelights. One of these was to allow the switch to make the white wire live, the other powers the illumination on the switch. I just connected the right one to the full beam feed, and the white wire to the spotlight relay.

I can go and check which was which if you want - it's in the RAVE manual though. The wire colours were wrong but the pinout for the plug was correct.

Hi all.

I dont know what u'll think about it but as i was strapped for cash i made my light bar from the cross bar on the standered disco roof bars.
Im making some brackets that fit to the top of the bar form round the roof bars then back under and bolts though the bar to stop folk from nickin um.

There only 55watters but there bright enough and u dont get the glare on the window and bonnet. :)

So what u all think then?   [-o<

Ok hunted round the house for stuff to sell to riase funds for the Chequer Plate Bonnet Cover. Tracked one done on ebay £60.00 extra £20 for matt black powder coat all up plus postage £93.00 got here thursday fitted today very happy. Jeff

Anyone know where to get chequer plate rear quarter protectors from? I did see them on ebay a while back.I had a disagreement with a wall on the way to Gategarth pass in the lakes on saturday, I may cover up my dent!

Yes the Cover came from jumblerat very happy with it ignore the part in there listing on eBay about the bump at the back if you pop rivet it properly you don't get one  :D. I think there where chequer plate rear quarter protectors on there page last time i looked give them an email see what they say.
