upper link ball joint

If its just the ball joint thats gone then rather than removing the bolts through the bushes at the chassis end, you can just split the A frame and remove the middle casting which contains the ball joint.

I've never had too much trouble getting the ball joint of the axle. A long bar and large lump hammer has always seen to that for me. Getting the ball joint out of the A frame is more awkward and having a press to hand makes life easier. With the ball joint removed from the axle and the A frame split you can take the ball joint still in its casting out from under the vehicle to work on it. At this stage you could take it to a garage for them to press out the old ball joint and press a new one in (assuming you don't have a press yourself).

Other than the 'intermittant gravity press' you mean :-k

clbarclay:
Or a trouser press for that matter.
