Some of it can be down to what you are doing at the time. "Pinning" the rear diff involves fitting a support to the crownwheel alongside the pinion to stop it flexing apart when under load. When it does flex the tetth are loaded at the ends and far more likely to shatter.
Given that it's more popular amogst comp safari guys IIRC, that would suggest speed is a factor :-k
Also if you bust a diff by spinning a wheel then dropping it on the ground, well the planetary gears are already working hard, so busting them is probably more likely.
Bust maybe it's just down to luck [-o<

it was the end cap that had sheard the cv joint splines so replaced both and all is ok thanks
