10 spline or 24 spline ???

<< < (2/3) > >>

Range Rover Blues:
Having said all that, when 24 splines wear they become useless, they jump whereas 10 splines just get more backlash, so as Mr Barclay suggest strip them, clean them and check them.  A good 10 spline will beat a goosed 24 any day.

bigfatsi:
I pondered the same thing as you but in the end I stuck with good ol' 10 splines. I must admit I did try to be interested when people started telling me about the different strengths and that certain axles had different cvs and......zzzzz....zzzz

Bottom line - I've broken 4 diffs both onroad and offroad. 10 splines are 10 a penny. 24 splines are not. Simple maths and sheer tight@rsedness won the day!!! lol

Simon.

extreme90:
id keept the front axle you have now as its stronger than a 24 spline unit
and fit the 24 spline to the rear

suggs:
10 spline on the front stronger than a 24 spline?, going down this road myself. was going to fit a 24 front and back...

Lumbering Jack:
not meaning to hijack the thread but someone mentioned  different radius arms?  I'd heard that early defenders had narrow bush arms and later ones had wide bush - are the arms different thicknesses too and are discovery/rrc the same as the narrow bush ones?
