Strange 'cut out' when off roading

I was at a pay and play site on Sunday and got on the first downhill incline and the disco just cut out and refused to restart (would turn over but seemed like no fuel was getting through??), I got towed to the parking area thanks to a very friendly marshall and undid the fuel filter which was full, I screwed it back up and tried to start it, it fired up first turn of the key and I never had the problem again, I don't think it was a problem with the factory immobiliser as it turned over but I am concerned it may do it again, probably at a busy set of lights knowing my luck, can anyone shed a light on what it may have been and wheather it is the start of a problem?

Dodgy connection on the fuel stop solenoid maybe ?

It could well be your alarm spider/immobiliser. This cuts the fuel off but doesn't stop the engine turning over. Mine did it twice (the first time at the inevitable busy roundabout) before I fitted the bypass plug thing. Hasn't acted up since!

The problem is caused by dry joints in the immobiliser box - being right on top of the heater doesn't help it either. You can prise the lid off and resolder the dodgy joints but I didn't fancy taking the whole dashboard apart again, and it would definitely break again...

Low fuel level? Mine cut out on a descent once when I had about £10 i the tank. Started up afterwards tho. Diesels airlock when they run out of fuel, a common solution is to crack off an injector, turn engine and re-tighten. Removing the fuel filter may have had a similar effect. Sound possible?

Thanks for the replies, they sound very plausable apart from the low fuel as I had half a tank in, where does the bypass plug thing fit??
