air compressor

ok i know its now car related but still got a prob.

I got an ingersol rand air compressor with 4 hp motor 3 phase i have just moved it to another garage but have no 3 phase there.
 Can i fit a 230 volt motor 2 hp onto this comp will it work albeit at half power.
 Any info appreciated if sell i wont get what its worth and will have to buy a 230 volt air compressor
I'd rather use what i got if poss as i know what this is like rather the devil you know
