Lexus into Disco.....
clover:
Actually from an engineering perspective the LS400 V8 is not a great engine. In fact its not as refined as many other engines out there. What makes them so smooth and so nice to drive is the extremely technically well crafted engine mounts they use.
Now what appeals to me is the American V8 conversions that they did on the Range Rover Classic. I can't for the life of me remember the name now but Clarkson did an iconic Top gear where he whilst towing a ford focus on a trailer beat another ford focus in a 0-60 race in one.
Now one of them in a Disco is a nice idea but might be a bit scary with MT tyres :-)
Disco Matt:
I did read around a bit about this a few weeks back. I'd come up with this idea for a Disco-based sleeper running a 5l Rover V8 with twin turbos and putting out around 500bhp. The problem seems to be that the Rover V8 gets very expensive to build when you want that much power from it.
No I will not be building one unless all six numbers come up, in which case I'd be looking for a tidy '95 or '96 3 door Disco. It'd end up dark green or grey, looking like a well cared for old Disco with the only visible mods being BFG A/Ts and upgraded brakes (not that visible). Obviously the suspension would get a complete overhaul and it might well need a tweaked gearbox, heavy duty diffs, etc to handle the power!

Actually I know a guy who is putting a Range Rover Sport supercharged engine in his classic. I've seen the engine and I know he has the ability to do it. I hate to think what it will go like.
Disco Matt:
I think with any big engine conversion you'll scare the crap out of yourself at first, then that'll keep you driving sensibly until you really learn how to handle it.
If the RRS engine will fit into a RRC/Disco 1 engine bay then that might be a cheaper route. The crucial part will be making sure it has the best exhaust you can fit. Ideally straight through...
