deisel to petrol

4 landies:
I'm new to series landies so a bit of info please.

Can anybody tell me if the 2.25 deisel and petrol use the same block and different heads , reason for asking just bought a lightweight with a deisel unit but log book says petrol as does the vin plate. the head is only placed on as if somebody has tried changing it.

 Any info would be great.

lightweight-love:
Hi 3 landies (good number of em i say!)
pretty similar design but lots of lil differences, no-one would bother changing a petrol to diesel really just dropped a new lump in it and not changed books! are there not the 3 bolts holding the head down then?

Rich_P:
They share the same blocks (both 3 and 5 bearings), same timing cover and timing chain assembly too I think.  Same sump as well.  The differences begin with the crank, the head is different and other lots of little bits.

But, in theory, it is possible to convert a 2.25 Petrol into a 2.25 Diesel and vice versa!  Why would anyone want to do that though is a bit of a question in its own right...  :-k

4 landies:
the lightweight i just bought should be a petrol but somebody has tried converting it, head is placed on with no hoses and exhaust not connected makes me think block was petrol.

Rich_P:
If you could provide the engine number on the block, it will immediately tell us if it is a petrol or diesel block you have. The number is stamped just behind the water pump near where the inlet and exhaust manifolds should be.
