Tow mower/topper ideas/help

(1/2) > >>

carbore:
I have let the grass in my fields grow too tall for my garden tractor to cope. Becuase its a bit stemy its wraping round the blades on the 3 blade deck.  The mower did fine last year on some tall grass/docus but its too thick and dense as I missed an early mow.

Question.

Is there such a thing as a ground driven topper/mower that I can stick on the back of the freelander and drag round for 3ft high grass/docks

I have seen some petrol driven ones that look good but I dont want to shell out that much cash c£1500

Alternative is to get a compact tractor/big graden one with a PTO and get a PTO driven topper, but provided I keep the grass in check I dont really need one just yet, but id love a loader and hoe one day (I like toys and have 5 acress of excuse!)

I alos considered a PTO for the Series iii but assume I cant do anything re a 3 point hitch (will do a nato hor trailers etc) pl;ust the 3 series will be out of action soon for restoration.

I haev alose considered an old "classic" tractor, but to be honest the scare me! (big open wheels no ROPS etc)

The boring option would be to get a contractor in to get it in shape then keep it in check with the graden tractor.

any ideas rea cheap tow mowers though?

By far the cheapest mower is to let a local farmer put a few sheep in there.

V8MoneyPit:
The tow along self powered toppers are unlikely to be powerful enough if you let your grass get to 3 feet!! And they tend to only have small wheels so need the surface to reasonably smooth. You are far better off with a PTO driven one. And for the £1500 you mention, you could very nearly buy yourself an old Fergie and a new topper!

That's what i'd do, they may even cut & bale it and take it away.
