DISCO FUEL PROBLEM
lee celtic:
With rust holes in the fuel lines it tends to come on gradually unless you hit somthing .
As said before I'd have a good look at the stop wire to the pump or the stop solanoid .if the pumps ok...
blocked injector would just make it run lumpy and lots of white smoke james bond style..  I know ,been there..
Or is there an imobiliser issue..
Les Henson:
Put your finger on the fuel cut off switch on the back of the injector pump then get someone to turn the ignition on. There will be a click from the switch, and you will feel it as well. If there is nothing, then run a wire directly from the battery positive terminal to the switch and if the switch is ok it should click. If not, then a new switch is needed. Is it a 200 or 300TDi? If the latter, then it could be the alarm spider - a very common problem and you can buy a bypass plug to cure the problem for about a fiver. On a 300 TDi engine if the lift pump packs up it doesn't kill the engine - it just reduces performance. A blocked filter wouldn't suddenly kill the engine either - as it slowly blocks up you would have had a decrease in performance which gets gradually worse. If your timing belt jumped a tooth, then again the engine wouldn't die. Advanced a tooth would make it rattle, and retarded (hightly unlikely), it would make the engine go 'soft' and create a lot of smoke. Sudden death of power is usually electrical or possibly the injector pump failing - although the latter is rare. Generally the pumps are very reliable.

DCR:
Got it sorted. The small timing belt had slipped of and got chewed up.According to the nice gentleman at J L services Willenhall L R made a modification about 96
and a kit is available for 87 beer tokens this consists of an idler wheel x 2 the wheel that drives the belt what they have done is put a lip on it to stop the belt slipping off and a cover gasket. The vehicle still would not start so they checked the glow plugs and these did not seem to work these were replaced and got it started. I have a slight hesitation when pulling away that wasn't noticeable before. Could the pump require some further adjustment? :D :D
Cheers every body
