Simex were very good but i'm going more overland style now. I have a roof tent and awning on order and a fridge and a few other bits
It'll look a bit lke this at camp time



I have a extreme off roader i can use any time i wish now so my own car doesn't need to be mental off road  ;)

Plus its a nice car to drive again now

Tonight i moved the spot lights of the roof rack and fitted them to a light bar



I moved the roof rack back to a better position too.
Next was to fit my new rear ladder so i can now get onto my roof rack

Looks better now

Have you had any thoughts on the suspension Jake? With the arch kit fitted same as yours I'm thinking maybe of sticking with 235/85 or poss 265/75 and swapping the +2" to a heavy duty spring with a 1" lift to take some of the stress off the props and castor.

What width modulars have you got - they look like they fill the arches a bit better than the standard alloys I'm running or have you got spacers under there as well?

Gonna be a bright bonnet with those lights up there!  :cool:  Is there any mounting point for a CB aerial up there anywhere?

I think you're like me - takes a few different set-ups to get it to the point you're happy with it  :grin:

Definetly Chris, I'm never happy with the car  :lol:
The light bar has a cb mount in the middle rear or i can use the roof rack for that.
The wheels are 8x16 tuf tourqe modulars with a +8 off set.  Running with the 2" lift i have 265/75/16's fitted and there's loads of room in the arches.  I'd say you'd be fine on a 1" lift and running the same (235/85/16 are the same height but 30mm narrower)

This week i fitted some smaller rectangular spots and my new side facing camping/night laning flood lights





The finished ladder

Tonights job was to fit the new Mudpod and the Carling switches

I've used a 6 gang mount and have (right to left) a winch in/out switch, blank, on/off/on switch to control the top 4 spots and 3 on/off switches which will control the left/right/rear work lights

After cutting the hole in the pod i set about fitting it to the dash

Cut a hole for the wires

Then i attached the mounting plate (I had to drill 4 new holes in the corners to get a decent puchase on the dash)

Then on with the pod

I will do all the wiring over the bank holiday
And, just for fun my new screen shot

why no D44 curvy light bar? what tent have you got coming?
I decieded not to go for a D44 light bar mainly because they come around and up the roof which interferes with the roof rack legs.
On the blue D2 we prepared the middle legs went behind the light bar and the front ones joined onto it. This made it a permenant fixture.  I can  now remove the roof rack when ever i like and not worry about what it will leave behind.
I am going to buy a ARB Simpson 3 roof tent

I have now fitted some cool gauges into my Mudpod
First job was to drill two holes ( i used a 51mm holesaw)

Then i fitted the gauges in and set about wiring them in
All fitted and working

Theres a volt meter for my second battery

And a oil temperature gauge

They look sweet!

When you turn off the ignition they go dark

Kate reckons it looks like Johnny 5  :lol:

This week i have been mostly.....

preping for the MOT

First job was to remove the winch

Then off to work and continued stripping the front on the ramp

Removed all the battery/alarm and fuse box

There's a fair amount of rot under the battery tray, front light housing and arch

The drivers side sill was a bit ropy too

That was soon cut out

Whilst the car was being welded by Nick i set about some other jobs on the car. First one was to strip, rub down and paint the winch

Sill repaired

Nick started cutting out the front end next

While i set about fitting a contactor to control the winch

I started sorting out loads of wiring too
This mess

I painted the winch motor and drum with matt black

Then i primed the rest of the winch

I then painted the parts in Rover gunmetal silver (which is identical to the XD9000 colour)

The finished winch

I have a new Warn sticker for the middle which i'll put on in a couple of days
Meanwhile, Nick was hard at work at the front of the car





I tidied up the wiring under the car.  I put protective trunking on all the cables and p clipped them to the car





I made all the wiring on the front look nice too

New battery tray in (ASR1400)

Underneth looking great

Pretty neat 'eh

Then i covered it in anti stone chip under seal



All back together and parked in the rain

The MOT is at the end of August
Should be a breeze

Jake,

That dash pod and Carling switches look great, might have to get one of those in mine, all my Carling switches are mounted in a plastic box on top of the dash but yours looks much better.

Can you get those pods with just the switch mounts? I've got no dials to put in on mine.

Can you get those pods with just the switch mounts? I've got no dials to put in on mine.
They come as a blank canvas with no holes in them

Big enough for 11 switches or 5 guages but you can also use them for accessory sockets and webasto control units
