We are slowly being taken over by a civvy company, the restrictions put in place on the IT footprint, access to the machines storage devices and ports and server space will cause a lot of problems. Will cause people to be restricted to certain workstations. But time will tell if it is able to save money in the long run.

Im sure with the buying power of an organisation of the size of all the forces in England and Wales, they'd be able to get a bespoke system built.
They could go along to BMW or Ford and get a patrol car designed for the requirements. more money saved for the Public.

Wireless:
We had so many staff consultations regarding the interior design of an ambulance, and standardised equipment based around the needs of a paramedic, agreed with the service training team, and every time the managers went away to procure vehicles and equipment we ended up with a load of old crap.

Vehicles which couldn't carry all of the equipment due to a lack of storage, vehicles where it is physically impossible to carry out basic life support while the vehicle is in motion, vehicles where the internal vehicle height was reduced to 5'4" from a previous 6'3", vehicles with diesel heater exhausts mounted under the rear steps (so all the fumes are drawn inside), vehicles without door stays, so that the doors used to swing in the wind and damage parked vehicles, or even worse hit the patient and ambulance crew while being loaded and unloaded, under floor ramps that used to jam half in/out, and meant the vehicle had to be VOR and driven back to the station with oxygen tubing holding the rear doors together.  We even ended up with vehicles that were based on volvo cars and looked suspiciously hearse like to me.

Equipment; with each new piece of kit bought on the cheap, we suddenly had 5 or 6 bags of kit to take into a collapse, this is before taking any equipment to carry a patient to the waiting ambulance, nothing was integrated, if you had anyone try to assist they couldn't because there were so many bags that looked alike.

However, they spent a fortune on a new vehicle livery that wasn't needed, and brand new signs for the stations, when the old ones looked ok to me.

Fur coat and no knickers...looks good on the outside, but all the essentials are missing, the problem is not just confined to the Police, it's been endemic in the Ambulance Service for decades, and I'm told the Fire Service is starting to suffer the same fate.

Ho hum, such is life, glad I'm retired from all that nonsence now.

Welcome to civil middle management meddling, curtosey of Mr A Blair and croneys.

Although we are starting to come out of the other side of it, or maybe the spotlight has just moved on to the public services.
