200tdi into a 300tdi
muddyjames:
From my other threads I think I have warped my head (the disco's as well as mine!!) and have had a lovely offer from a MC member of a 200tdi running engine.
I was wondering. How easy is it to put a 200tdi engine into a 300tdi disco. Mine is also an auto if that rears some ugly faces. I am just concerned about ecu's etc etc. I know basicaly they are the same but how much different are they?
Cheers in advance.

I considered buying a knackered 300tdi disco and putting my 200tdi engine in the main problem is that the engine mounts are in different places so that you need to cut off a set of 200tdi engine mounts and weld them on to the chassis to fit the engine, you have to use either the 300tdi bell housing or fly wheel as well to match up with the gearbox.

I don't think that this is going to work.
The auto 300Tdi has an ECU on the injector pump that hooks up with the autobox. The two injector pumps are not interchangeable.
This aside you will need to move all the auto clutch bits (including flywheel if my memory serves) from the 300 to the 200.
To be honest I think I'd get a replacement head for the 300 and get that engine rebuilt. The 300 is a slightly torque-er engine as well.

So the 200tdi idea is a gone'r. :'(
the idea of a different engine appeals to me SO much is that having the disco the last 2 and a bit years it has never been reliable and cold starting is something that a person playing roulette would have more chances of winning than I could bet on it starting. Another engine sounds so much nicer as it might be more reliable, hopefully.
also putting a different engine is something I can rope a few friends into coming and helping me do. The head and skimming is a BIG no no from me as a diy project. that involves a proper person who knows what they are doing. Having that means being trailered away, yet more cost. Repairing this engine to me on my list of choices is below selling as is and breaking disco tbh. :'(

so what are my options then for engines?
will a defender or rr engine fit in or are they different engine mounts etc? If I found a vm engine would that work as my mate has a vm engine in his rr.
