200 tdi timing belt
MTyrrell:
Just done this job on a 200TDi Discovery 200TDi last weekend. I followed the guide above. The only problem i had was with the injector pump, the gear jumped 1 tooth when removing the old belt, think a 9mm drill bit allowed a bit too much movement. Otherwise it's a straightforward job.
You will need a puller to get the damper off though. I got one of these from machine mart for £18.00 http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/cht270-3-pce-gear-puller-set/path/automotive-hand-tools
When refitting make sure you line up keyway in the torsion dampener with the woodruff key on the crank. I manage to break the Torsion Damper when I did mine, it didn't line up properly with woodruff key on the crank and after tightening the crank bolt to 199 Ft Lb it crushed the end of the woodruff key and put a several big cracks in the damper so it’s all got to come apart again.
There should be a TDC timing mark on the damper. Assuming the engine is still at TDC after fitting the belt make sure this timing mark aligns with the web on the timing chest cover.
