cables that dont go anywhere
flash42:
was looking under the bonnet of my 90 today and noticed two cables with a socket sought attachment on the end of each one. thought it a bit odd and called a mate over who also owns a 300tdi. we checked his and then mine and discovered that one is i think where the EGR was, but the pipe has been removed the it now has a block off plate on it. the other one was meant to go to a small device attached to the top of the accelerator. i dont know what it is or what it does. can anyone shine some light on it, and tell me if i need it .
cheers

The one on the pump throttle spindle is the throttle position sensor (its is just a simple potentiometer), it was part of the EGR system and is redundant if EGR valve is removed.

is it worth replacing them both.
or shall i just keep it as it is.
also the EGR plate looks a bit dodgy compared to the ones ive seen advertised. it is a simpel disc with bar across it to hold it in place.
Rasbo:
i just fitted a 300 with no egr and i dont have anything on top off the accelerator (peddle or pump), is your mates a late 300? i know landrover played around andf fitted a few 300's with fly-by-wire tech but thought it was only on very very late discos
flash42:
i think his is a 98, but not sure.
on mine i have all the cables to attach to the EGR and the other thing.
mines a 96
