Biggest Muds to fit Freelander 1?

Big Rich:
Its a W reg Diesel. Its getting a lift (2inch) and I want to fit mud tyres. Whats the biggest tyre you can get to fit?

Rich

Doobreydog:
215/80/15 or 205/80/16 depending on what wheels you have...you can get away with 215/80/15 bronco diamond backs (if you can still get them) which have a 20mm tread and are more like .../90/.. profile but thet will rub slightly on rear of front wheel arches but will soon wear away the little bit of plastic...

Big Rich:
Fantastic.

I have seen 2 nch lift kits but was toying with whether you could get away with a 3 inch?

You'll run out of clearance. The steering arms will foul the 'chassis rail' inside the inner wing at full rebound. We have a 2" lift and the inner wing is cut right down to the rail. We had to move the fuel pipes which used to run on top of the rail too.

Also, the bottom of the strut is likely to foul the driveshaft at full rebound. Ours get pretty close at 2" lift.

Another issue is the life of the CV joints when they are running constantly at a severe angle.

Tyres:
We have 215/75x15 BFG all terrains and they don't foul.

3laner:
Big G from MAD freelanders had more than a 2 inch lift AFAIK. Dont know what he did to address the clearance issues.may be worth a visit to www.mad-freelanders.org to find out. loads of other tyre and lift info under technical.

cheers
Alex
