heater motor

Hi

Whilst out laning on Saturday the heater blower motor died on Pinky.

I was first alerted to the problem when everybody in the vehicle started moaning about how cold it was. Then we got acrid smelling smoke coming out the windscreen air vents and the fans stopped working.

We still have a heater as it does get warm air through at about 60mph!

I've checked the fuse which does not seem to have popped! Which is odd.

I need to check the relay next.

Can't find anything else electrical that does not work so I don't think there are any seriously melted wires behind the dash.

Just out of interest is it possible to change the motor for the fans or is the only solution a new heater unit?

Just how bad of a job is this? I have visions of the dash being removed and other scary stuff!

Cheers

John

mine burnt out like that and stank need to replace blower not a nice job dash out and it seem to take ages and it did

Yes it is possible to change just the blower, BUT!!

if you have had acrid smelling smoke then it is very possible that the blower has siezed, and then melted its way through the housing!!!!

This is what happened to me, which was only evident once I'd stripped out the aircon stuff from the passengers footwell. The only way of changing either the blowers themselves or the whole unit is to remove the dashboard!! its not a hard job, just lengthy and a pain in the aaaaaaaaaaa!!!!

[!Expletive Deleted!]...

Removing the dash is too a big a job for me at the minute.

Looks like its time for a 12V fan heater.

Have to look around see if I can find a decent one.

Heating is one of the problems you'll have, at speed not too bad, but if at slow speeds whats more of a problem is demisting, might be worth getting a couple of cheap 12v fans to wedge in the base of the dash to act as demisters ;)
