VED (Road Tax) - Retrospective application back to 2001
Range Rover Blues:
They should also be rewarding people who have big cars and don't use them, say by N not taxing the car but taxing the fuel, or perhaps by giving tax releif on the samnller car. If it comes to the point where I can't afford to trun 2 cars the Micra will have to go, it can't pull the caravn, carry the dogs or the wheelchair (or the pram in a few months).

We have four cars, two currently SORNed.
The wife paid £115 VED for the 1985 Fiat Panda she uses for work, I am disabled so don't pay VED on the 1996 Disco, my sons want to jointly run our SORN 1968 VW Beetle (17 to 20 year old kids, so don't hold your breath), which is Pre-1973 so no VED to pay, and the 1973 (four months too late!) VW Type 3 Variant is the last project that will remain SORN until I want to put an MoT on it and sell it in 2010/11, to partly fund the 2001 to 2003 Rangy I drool after (remember I don't pay VED).
Although, I have been considering conversion of a 53 or 57 Seater Coach into a 16 seater Motorhome/Minibus, since I have no weight restriction on D1+E as I also hold C+E. No idea what the VED is on that vehicle, but as I can register one vehicle as disabled, maybe it'll be cheaper moving this from the Disco to the Motorhome/Minibus. I was going to ditch the C+E when I have to go for a medical, since I can't see myself climbing up the side of a truck to get in the cab anymore, but with a coach, entry is much easier, maybe it's best I wait until I pass it before looking any further at this.
I could even tow the Rangy on a trailer behind it, think of the European Tour I could have...oh well, pipe dreams eh?

f I get time ill look but I don't want to fall into the trap of quoting someone elses poor research e.g. the BBC's. This is not a pop at you though Boddle, just for posting the links and starting the debate.

Not really sure you could have a go at me all I did was allow you to view what others have said and hopefully make your own mind. I didn't intend to express an opinion on it, but let face it is the some of idea behind the forum to debate issues like this.

I assume you have checked the build date? A quick google tells me:
--- Quote ---Type 3s up to 3132058500 (Fastback/Notchback) or 3632058500 (Squareback)
--- End quote ---
are the lastest chassis numbers for tax free (but I'm guessing you already know this). Anything less than these numbers *should* be tax free.

Thanks, but yeah I even applied for the car's 'birth' certificate from VW's records, definately a 1973 build, something I had to make sure about.
