What is this country coming to???

It's soul destroying enough applying for hunders fo jobs only to be knocked back at the interview, without the state breathing down your neck telling you you have to get a job.
I payed my taxes whilst I was working so I'm entitled to benifits when I'm out of a job through no fault of my own. However hard you try to reduce the benifit culture of some elements of our society you invariably end up hurting the involuntarily unemployed more so.

RRB, in your argument, you automatically exclude yourself from the main target in LSP's tirade. You applied for hundreds of jobs, ergo you tried as hard as you could to go back to the workplace. I would find it difficult for anyone to include you in the "leeches" battallion.
On a different note, and as an Inmigrant myself, it really annoys me to hear some elements claim that we steal the jobs, the women, the beer, yadda, yadda, yadda, yet they are very fast (as in lightning) to state that they are off to Spain (incidentally, my country of origin) or any other place to find a better job, and come back ranting that they have been treated with disdain, etc... In most cases, the reason they haven't found a job (or held onto it) is because they could not be bothered to learn the language or because they have not been able to change their modus vivendi to suit the local customs. When they come back (or even before they left) they are the loudest when it comes to berating people because they speak English with an accent, or because they want to keep some of their customs.
Now, I am PAYE, I pay full Council Tax, Road Fund Licence, Fuel Excise Duty, VAT, NI contributions, indirect taxes on pretty much anything you can think of and I do not claim any benefits other than the basic Child Benefit (£18.10 pw). Regardless of what I decide to do with my savings (since most of my earnings are spent in taxes, rent, food and basics) how exactly can anyone defend the outlandish idea that I don't contribute to society????
On the other hand you get through and through red white and blue English lads like the aforementioned, whose exact words, if memory serves, when offered the £7 ph job was "I'd rather sign on".
Bigotry is a very dangerous habit, and it is a rather adicctive one, as well.

Sider and RRB. My apologies if you think I am having a pop at you guys. That is most definately not the case. And further apologies if it seemed like a tirade. A rant, maybe.
I do not have any issues with immigration. My main truck is with those, who abuse the system that is there to help the genuine cases.
This country, and by that I mean the UK as a whole, has had one of the best records for helping immigrants, and long may it continue. If labour is needed, then it has to come from somewhere.
Those who were made unemployed through no fault of their own, should be given support.
Those who can't be arsed to contribute, deserve no help.

He can ride  constantly getting his paw down on the corners and racking up an impressive 9 points in one hour on his mini moto. You have heard of "Ghost Rider" this is "Moggie rider"
He is currently "Wanted on Warrent" by the Paw police for fail to appear and is believed to be hiding out in a garage somewhere in deepest Lincolnshire.
Have you seen him??

If he's chipped, the Paw Police can drive around with an automated RFI Tag Scanner mounted in the Paw Police Area Car and catch more suspected ASBO moggies than ever before, except the damned paperwork means that the device will unintentionally return the Paw Police to the local nick faster than ever before, and law abiding members of the feline public will critically state that the technology does little to combat crime as Paw Police appear not to patrol the streets for very long these days...
It's a slippery slope, not based on reality (we hope).

LSP, read again my post. I was not having a go at you. If anything, I was wholeheartedly agreeing with you, and pointing out to RRB that your argument (I tried to sound jocular with "tirade", but obviously failed) was addressed to those who milk the system, not those who need the protection of the benefit system.
I got a bit carried away not by your post, but by someone else's (can't remember whose) cheap pop at inmigrants without distinction.
Bishops Finger:
You've all missed a very basic point.....A lime skin will not fit properly on a cats head....end of get over it :afro:
