What does this light mean on my Jap import 300TDi Auto dashboard??

According to my owners handbook it's a catalyst warning light ~ illuminates if the cat has overheated.
"In some markets, brief illumination occurs as a bulb check whaen the starter switch is turned to position 'II'."

Smart Fortwo and Roadsters have this device too (probably loads of cars do) its to help with emmisions, the cats are only effective when running at temperature! and as such are heated when cold and can warn if they get too warm.

Sorry gang, not a pre heater at all!!! It is an OVER HEAT light!!! If its on its too hot!!! :dance:
