BENEFIT cheats.......
Sider:
You know my favourite part??? There is a couple in our local pub, both well known for not having worked a day in oh, ten years? They both claim incapacity benefits, yet they are able to do pretty much as they want. Come inspection day, they limp a bit, moan a bit, and that's it. They have been "grassed" several times, but somehow fooled the inspectors. They live in a council house, he drives an 05 A4, she drives a 55 Octavia, and they still have the cheek to tell me that I don't belong here, that all us foreigners are here stealing their jobs, yadda, yadda, yadda.
They have now been barred for life. You see, the landlord knows where I work, and how hard, and pointed out to them that were it not for me and the other 20 odd million idiots paying our taxes and NI, them two wouldn't be able to afford the drink, fags, cars and housing they get, and that maybe half the rest of the pub have a more righteous claim to benefits, yet they don't claim them, prefering to work for their money.
Obviously, they didn't like being called cheats in the face, so they got lippy with the landlord. That might have looked like a good idea in their twisted minds, but not so good when all the patronage (including 3 friendly beat bobbies) invited them politely to abandon the premises, and stop being a pair of derrieres for the night. Clever as they are, they decided to pick on me, along the lines of "Bloody foreigner, ruining our country, etc, etc,. That got them the (oh so well deserved) ban.
If they genuinely deserve it, they can have as much as they need out of my (and your) taxes. If, on the other hand, they are cheating the system, a bit of forced labour until they repay all they syphoned would get my vote. With a bit of cat'o'nine'tails for good fortune.
Hangover:
Lets not forget Maggies army, when they closed all the mines there wasn't much left but benefits,it's not all Labours fault,Labour though have not done much about sorting it as things don't improve, there all to frightened of upsetting somebody, the current system has got nothing to do with the original welfare state.
land-def-90:
benefits are suposed to be a sefety net for the needy, not a way of life.
freelanderpx54:
The difficulty comes with the benefit system doesn't encourage people back to work. My stepdaughter has 2 young children and wants to get back to work. There was a job going in my department which pays reasonably well - £12k but when she went to to the job centre to speak to their lone parent advisor she was told that she would be £10 a week better off BUT because she would be working she would have to pay full rent, Council tax etc and would in effect be around £50 per month worse off.
So, the question is, stay on benefits and have some money for shopping or get a job and be worse off? And no she doesn't smoke, she doesn't go out unless we babysit (not often) and we bought her car and insured it (she passed her test a couple of weeks back)
Lord Shagg-Pyle:
All I can say is if you know someone is cheating the system, report them. You are not being a 'grass', more like a responsible member of society.
From experience, if they are screwing the system for benefits, they are breaking the law somehere else. Don't forget that Al Capone was banged up for tax evasion.
