Andy the Landy:
Mike - the Dumb Irons are the front chassis legs that the leaf spring attaches too. The old ones have been plated and at Whitworth on Boxing Day the ice breaking didnt do them any favours, so they need cutting off and new ones welding on, was going to replace the track rod and ends and drag link aswell as they probably suffered damage causing the front tyres to scrub

muky-kid.:

 AARRGGHH!! i see what you mean now, are you getting replacement ones or just have them replated ( welded up ) again.
Yep definatley needs to be at the garrage for that one, up on the ramp job for that one. Whats the rear cross member like and rear hangers are they o,k. Can be a [!Expletive Deleted!] sometimes just getting the bolts out of the leaf springs, especially if there std bushes ( tend to weld themselfs to the bolt ).Nothing to worry about DPG would soon have them out.For a bit of a lift you could always fit Milatary hangers that are fitted as std on Lightweights, thatll give you an instant 1" to 1"1/2 lift, just a thought.

Andy the Landy:
Had new rear crossmember 2 years ago, along with new LWB spring hangers, rest of chassis is in good nick as the MOD preserve them pretty well  Gonna go for new ones (better be safe than sorry). I re-timed the engine to cure black smoke so should get another 12 months out of it, but its not doing it any good being stood on drive and only being fired up every couple of days

Andy the Landy:
Thought about military hangers and its still on the list for sometime in the future. Not got too bad a lift with the LWB hangers and the 750 tyres
