scatt:
hi guys, i am looking at buying a new offroad toy. (will need to be on road aswell) and jimnys have come to my attention, just after some advise on its offroading ability, upgrade parts (offroad). and any other advise you think might be usefull. also have seen them with snorkels on but how do these work with petrol engines?. thanks

glaggs:
To make a Jimny a competant off roader all you realy need are a set of decent tyres and maybe a 2" lift. Snorkels on a petrol engin work exactly the same as they would on a diesel engin. The big differance between petrol and diesel as far as water in concerned is that a petrol engin needs the electrics waterproofing. Jimnys are reasonably ok in this respect -just spray thyem with a water despersant spray.

scatt:
thanks for the reply, what sort of size tyres will fit? would i need bodylift? and what is a safe wading depth, have seen them o u tube with water over the bonnet.

glaggs:
Suzuki used to fit 205/75 -15's (std is 205/70-15's) to their test fleet with no mods. On std gearing 215/80-15's is about as big as you can go, but these will need a 2" suspession lift and a little bit of trimming on the arches.

SteveW:
Mines on 215/15's with a 3" lift and a few other modifications and I've had to trim back the arches a bit to stop the tires catching. As for the offroad ability of it I'll let you know once I get a few things sorted so that I can get it properly tested as I've not had it long.

If your considering a jimny the following site has a few at different levels of modification and should be of help to you www.bigjimny.com

Hope this helps,

Steve.
