Hi there,

Little advice if possible. Its a 1.8 petrol, s reg. Metallic Green.

Looks nice and in pretty good condition.

Just a few questions, should it have central locking? (I think yes and if so its not working Doh!)

Also can you get a T-cut and Polish for the metallic paintwork? (that removes minor scratches)

Is it normal for the 1.8's to be quite noisy?

Thats all i can think of for now.

Thanks

G30RGE:
Central locking may depend on spec level

Metallic cutting polish - Yes

Noise - not sure, I have a diesel

Out of interest, My son's Dad has a Freelander  :P

Depends on the noise.

Does it sounds like tyres, does it change with road speed or engine speed.....forward and reverse?

A little more detail needed :)

carbore:

Re noise when on the road it should be noisier than a car but not as noisy as a defender (if that makes sense)

If the engine is noisy at idle or light revs when stationary then beware it could be a sign of poor servicing as the 1.8 K series is a fairly quiet engine.

It will rattle a bit when cold but should warm up and be normal car level of noise when warm.  (so make sure its cold when you see it)

Do the usual checks,

Oil level ok and not too clean (just been topped) too black (never been changed)
Remove oil filler and look inside the cap, NO mayonase! indicating water/oil meeting idicating HGF or other issues
Look in the expansion tank for signs of oil

Rev it looking at the exhasust and look fo blue smoke

The K series in the freelander is highly susceptable to failure if poorly serviced so if its shows any of the above or has an iffy looking service history then id walk away (people who do their own normally chuck the receipts in a pile and thats fine by me, but a car with no stamps in tatty condition and no other evidence is a no no)

Thanks for the advice he collection it on Tuesday. It seems a pretty clean and tidy motor, and they had records of things that have been done to it, they have had it in and out of there possession for the last few years or so, and have spent at least 2500 on it from totting up the receipts.

Any clue of the miles to a gallon on these motors?
