I forgot to post this over the weekend

On Saturday afternoon, I got dragged to the 'White Rose Shopping Centre' (which is a medium sized 'mall' on the southern edge of Leeds)

During the course of our perambulations up & down the shops, we ended up in a cards/wrapping paper/cuddly toy present shop

There was, much to my amazement, a double stand full of green tinted items, bearing such words as; 'Happy St Patricks Day'

I pointed these out to the wife & was gazing in a not quite believing way, when an assistant came up to me asking if I wanted any help

Before I could utter a word, SWMBO (seemingly reading my mind) whisked me away :-.


How could she know that I was going to ask if they'd be having a similar range of items for St Georges Day??

Sadly most of the English don't know when St Georges day is ... or where he was from, or in fact anything other than the name :(

When the people in England take their patron 'turkish' saint seriously, then it might be different.

P.S. He's also the patron saint of Moscow :)

...............and  also he doesn't  have a hand in the free marketing for Guiness. But then again having Irish ancesters I have an excuse to celebrate!!!!!

This is symptomatic of the loss of the cultural identity of England, and to be honest I dont know how it happened, but I DONT think its due to immigration.

I cant think of many British Cultural symbols that have not been hijacked by football and im sorry to say that most non-brits would see St George as the patron saint of football violence and club18-30 drinking binges.  I think we did and still do have a lot to be proud of, we just dont seem to have an up to date "Brand" to stick it on!

It was st davids day last saturday and i could not even find a daff to wear. just loads of irsh stuff
