L plate disco mpi ( no reverse ) help

 evening all , a friend has an L reg mpi disco, he lost reverse in tescos the other day, the stick moves into the usual reverse position , but nothing happens

 any ideas

done what my V8 did, there is a selector arm which has a pin through it that had fallen out, it needs a full strip down of the gearbox :'( :'( unless it is a gear gone it will most like fail again with out new parts

Got a gearbox from one of those lying in my shed if you want it could be cheap !
