overfinch chassis

sean m:
Rebuilding an overfinch chassis it has twin rear shocks one set are air shocks does anyone know if these are rebuildable and what make they are i think this was a standard conversion for an overfinch.

Range Rover Blues:
Air shocks, you mean they have a bladder over them or something?

In which case they are air-assisted to help carry extra loads or for towing.

Tell me, are there any other modifications to the rear suspension? perhaps to the geometry :?

I've read that Overfinch did modify the back end to improve handling and I want to know how.

sean m:
No they look similar to ordinary shocks but a bit bigger but have a small plastic hoses that looks like it connects to a small compressor and the centre load leveler has been removed

Range Rover Blues:
Interesting :-k

I assume it has standard col springs then.  Are there any sensors on for ride height or any sort of ECU for the compressor?

Otherwise I'd think it was a manual system to add air pressure in order to level the rear of the car, especailly if the Boge unit was removed.

Anyway, I don't imagine they are serviceable from what I know of shockers.  However you can still buy towing shockers that have the sort of external bladder I mentioned above, if you decide to refit them.

If you can get some pictures I'd be interested to see them.

Many years ago I used to have a Volvo estate that had extra coil springs fitted to the shockabsorber but also available you could get shock absorbers that you could pressurise with your tyre pump. There were also available a system with its own compressor that could be activated from inside the car to level it when fully loaded or towing. Sounds like your Range Rover has something similar. I haven't seen anything of this system since about mid eighties. I don't suppose this is much help to you. I think the shock absorbers may have been made by Munroe.

Just had a look on their websit try this address, they are still available
