Knocking noise
craigiow:
gone take rocker cover of tomorrow ? is the rocker gasket reusable of do i need to pick one up before i get the cover off ? apparently should be able to see wear on the cam or so i been told
Range Rover Blues:
Hmmm,, well ours is a 300, but as both have the cam in the block IIRC then I doubt you'll be able to see it, though I could be wrong.
The rubber gasket is supposed to be re-useable up to 5 times and given what a PITA it is to get a new one in place sometimes I'd not worry about it.
craigiow:
is there any way of telling if cam is knackered without replacing it or stripping head of ?

Get a feeler guage and a haynes manual, let the engine warm up and do all the clearances. Checking pushrods is a simple matter of taking rocker shaft off, not too hard at all. Check the little caps on the end of the valve stems are there too.
If you have a rocker that takes a LOT of adjustment then check pushrod for that rocaker and go from there. If you take anythign out make sure you note the order and that everything goes back where it came from.
craigiow:
whats the elec connection on top of engine, only ask as connection block is loose and cabling looks dubious, got out there with bit of tube(improvised stephascope) and convinced its in top of engine so looks more like a worn cam after all
