Why is life not life ?

(1/3) > >>

burgerman:
Not refering to any particular court case, but why is a life sentence not being banged up for there complete life?? instead of minimun of 15 years ect ??

After all, if a person has comitted such an awfull crime surely they should never be released again,( unless there insane of course) then they go to "hospital"

I guess overcrouding would be more of an issue than it is already,
I have never been to prison( and hope not too  8-[ ) but im sure its not that bad is it ?? so you behave nicely and bobs ya aunty- 12 or more years and your out n about again, probally unlike the person they may of injuerd/killed

I would like to keep this link free of particular cases/names if possible, But im sure there will be some discussion on this one

To put my tuppence in    --   I reckon life should be a life term, and other less serious issues should have a  time stated and stuck to

discowoman:
The Yanks have the right idea - LIFE + 99.. means they can serve 3 years of their 'life' sentance tbut then have to spend another 99 in prison - effectivly making life mean just that..

muddysteve:
becasue it would cost us the tax payer a fortune to keep them in there longer let alone the cost of the extra capacity that would be required

the noose i reckon would be a much better alternative  :-$

Tommo:
i would rather be hung than spend the rest of me life in prison though. send em to australia.

life + 99? not sure i get it. 102 years in jail then?

It's about £35,000 per prisoner per annum!

Time to bring back exportation to the colonies.
