OIl getting blasted out of that pipe is caused by piston ring blow-by. It's worse at motorway speeds becuase the negine is running hard for a long time.
I fitted a catch tank to that pipe and blocked it off at the turbo, all seems well so far.
kizz81:
how serious is a piston ring blow?
Range Rover Blues:
It's present in all engines, even new ones, but gets worse as the engine wears and the rings weaken too with time. A significant blow or chuffing might indicate a cracked ring but given the mileage you have on that engine I'd stop worrying until it blows up.
I'm told a cracked ring will make a ticking noise on a TDi anyway, so I think yours is just tired. If it goes ok then leave well alone, think about a thicker oil, like the Lucas stuff I use, as good oil will help a little.
If you're at the pub ask me about the catch tank ;)

To be honest it looks like the breather is blocked. If you look at your second picture the rocker cover gasket has leaked too.
All diesels breath a bit so don't worry to much about that.
As said, give the plastic breather pot & pipe a good clean & go from there. The turbo shouldn't affect the pipe as long as the intake/filter isn't blocked. :afro:
