any intercooler?

range17:
Is it possible to fit any intercooler to a TDI e.g a larger one ,to gain more power ,i realise there would be some work to be done in fitting say a vauxhall one ,but does it have to be a certain size for it to work .

L90OOK:
As long as the volume of the intercooler is larger than std & is not blocked for airflow you should see difference in power.
I would recommend getting one a similar size to the uprated intercoolers available.  Some people have fitted Supra Intercoolers with good results.
Tweak the pump with the intercooler for best results.

Locked for air flow? ,how would you now what the standard volume is ,just by the overall size of it i suppose .

fill it with water, measure the volume of water?

Range Rover Blues:
It's not the volume, it's the surface area.  An intercooler with big volume is going to casue more turbo lag.

Granted more surface area will mean more volume, but not vica versa.

Nissan fitted some slightly bigger intercoolers to some of their stuff, try one of those.
